If you have started planning your travel map for 2020 you probably want to go somewhere new and fresh. Preferably to places that wouldn’t be crowded with people and seen on social media for the hundredth time. Yes, the stereotypes in the travel industry really exist. Though every coin has two sides. Here are some cliché travel destinations with some twisted side you haven’t heard of that could turn your decisions around.

Paris – not only for lovers and romance

“you don’t have to be in love to go to Paris. Or go to Paris to fall in love. The city worldwide known as the capital of romance has more to offer than the Eiffel tower. ”

First of all – you don’t have to be in love to go to Paris. Or go to Paris to fall in love. The city worldwide known as the capital of romance has more to offer than the Eiffel tower. We suggest to explore the French culture from a spooky angle: go to the museum of vampires or the Paris catacombs. You can also embrace your inner bookworm in the impressive National Library of France or the iconic Parisian bookstore Shakespeare and Company. The opportunities are limitless!

Amsterdam – more than legal weed

Sure Amsterdam is the right place if you want to have some super relaxing cup of coffee – you can purchase and smoke under 5 grams of cannabis legally in coffee shops there. But the friendly city has some undiscovered perks as well. If you are a cat lover, there is a floating catboat shelter where you can pet the homeless creatures. Or Kattenkabinet – cat museum filled with cats for you to visit. Check out the industrial cultural hub called Westergasfabriek or treat yourself with unlimited Dutch pancakes while touring around on the Pancake Boat.

Ibiza – leave the party

“Surprising as it may be, Ibiza became popular when hippies started liking the island in the 60s – it was the hotspot of the flower people. ”

When you think about Ibiza, the most common thought that comes to one’s mind is likely never-ending party and drunk tourists. Though don’t judge a book by its cover. Ok, maybe only from its front cover. There’s something completely different waiting for you on the other side: free your hippy spirit! Surprising as it may be, Ibiza became popular when hippies started liking the island in the 60s – it was the hotspot of the flower people. To feel the old hippie vibe – go to the hippy markets to find some vintage clothes, handmade accessories, ceramics, and books. Or try the nude beach for some real body liberation. Get in the move on the island while hiking, kayaking or doing some yoga on the beach. There’s fun for everyone!

Norway – cheap and spectacular

Yup – the fact that Norway is an expensive country is true – it makes to the top 5 of the most expensive countries in the world. Though as the saying goes, the most important things in life are free. Apply it here in Norway and go see the unbelievably beautiful nature it has for free. The secret answer: trekking and hiking. Oh, and taking your food with you. The Fjords that leave everyone in awe – Tafjord, Geiranger, and Trollfjord.

Dubai – forget the skyscrapers

“If you want to discover the real side of the Middle East, ditch the shiny skyscrapers and dive into the historical area called Al Fahidi.  ”

If you want to discover the real side of the Middle East, ditch the shiny skyscrapers and dive into the historical area called Al Fahidi.  Even the signs of the shops here have a unique Ancient East style. It is not necessary to go to museums and galleries in this district – you can just walk along the narrow streets and imagine what was here hundreds of years ago. If you still want to go to the museum, explore the coffee museum and the smells it has. If you’ll go there for the spices, the spice market in Al Ras is your go-to place.
